Solo Show, Silent Night Museum, Oberndorf near Salzburg (AT)
The exhibition focuses on forgotten stories, blank spaces, and other un- familiar perspectives on the museum, as well as the reception of the song Silent Night. At the center of the exhibition lies the life and work of the Austrian writer and actress Hertha Pauli. In 1943, while in exile in the USA, she wrote the children’s book Silent Night. The Story of a Song. Born in Vienna in 1906, Pauli worked as an actress in Breslau/ Wrocław and Berlin before returning to Vienna in 1933. Following the Nazi Regime’s seizure of power in Austria, she fled via Zurich, Paris, Marseille, and Lisbon to the USA, where she lived on Long Island until her early death in 1973.The artistic engagement with Hertha Pauli offers a different view on the history and significance of the song Silent Night. The exhibition establishes a connection between historical and contemporary experiences of flight, persecution, and the desire for peace in the context of the Silent-Night-Museum
